What’s a Peak Pose?
Do you recall seeing those photos on Instagram where people are able to do poses that make them look like a pretzel? Or maybe you remember seeing someone doing an impossible pose where they hold their body up in crazy positions with their hands?
It’s more than likely those are peak poses. It’s a pose or a sequence that a yoga flow builds up to. You’re warming up muscles, stretching them out, and strengthening them; all so you can strike a challenging pose while also gaining plenty of mental and physical benefits.
However, everyone’s at a different level on their fitness journey, so Peak Poses could range from something as crazy as Flying Pigeon to the seemingly simple Tree Pose.
Even the most simple looking poses can be deceptively challenging – but that’s what makes them so fun to do and why we’ve added them to the Wheel House Schedule. They’re the perfect way to challenge yourself and really push you to your limits.
At Wheel House our instructors will teach four to eight classes every month that focus on achieving one peak pose. They’ll guide you through a series of stretches, poses, and exercises that will warm up the muscles you’ll need to achieve the pose. The flow they guide you through will also strengthen muscles so even if you can’t achieve the pose in the first class, your muscles will be stronger and looser for the next one!
